Gang,
Claton Cadmus, KA0GKC, correctly pointed out that the capacitance would
not be exactly doubled because the Teflon insulation is thicker than
enamel (the conductors are farther apart). Other side effects include the
relative proportion of air (probably different) in the electric field
between wires, and different capacitance to the core (due to the same
factors...dielectric constant, spacing, mix of Teflon & air).

Lots of variables to consider. Not black or white. Somewhere in between!
In any event, best to build it as designed. Otherwise, be prepared for
surprises. Thanks, Claton, for your input.
