Amongst the RSGB books I have on antennas it is strongly suggested that one
go for more radials than fewer radials cut for resonance. A quick reading
of the literature would suggest that you will do quite well with a
ground-mounted vertical if you can get 20-30 radials at least .10
wavelength at the lowest frequency of interest. This flies against the
conventional "wisdom" but often this "wisdom" isn't.
