scaf vs. dsp vs. active filter??

 Hello folks,
   I need a bit of advice from the group. What are the
 advantages/disadvantages of:

     * active audio filter
     * scaf filter ( OHR scaf)
     * dsp ( Radio Shack...don't have the budget for a fancy one)
 
 I have not used any of these, and am motivated by the group
 OHR buy to think about it more.

 Also, has anyone tried cascading the RS dsp with a scaf??

 Any real world experience you can relate would be much
 appreciated.
