7N3WVM's dual-crystal VXO is very interesting, and raises lots of
questions and gives us all lots of room to experiment.
It reminds me of an eyebrow-raiser in QST a while back: the
"Rock-Bending Receiver", Aug. 1995. He violated conventional wisdom and
recommended FT-243 crystal holders - everybody else says they bend less
<!>. He uses one of those dual polyfilm variable caps (about 250 pF per
section from Mouser), both sections paralleled. Inductance: 22.7 uH
total, he recommends breaking it into 2 10 uH and one 2.7 uH (molded
chokes). And he claims 25 kHz tuning range with great stability, and up
to 50 kHz swing possible.
Anybody tried this one?
