was on vacation in Townsend, TN.. the Peaceful side of the Smokys
this week.
one morning the family decided to sleep late.. took out my Argosy
II, gel cell and helically wound PVC verticals. set up on the lawn
in back of my room.
20m was a little dead.. switched tops and added a couple of
radials and got on 40meters.. talked to some guy in NY for about
45 minutes. Then got on SSB.. was surprised I even knew where the
mike was located. Got some guy in Kansas.. we sat and had a great
chat for about an hour.. on 4 watts.. I believe that the speech
processing or something in some rigs on SSB makes a big
difference.. will have to check and see what is so different about
the argosy.. always noticed it on my Argonaut 509.. ran it mobile
and never had any problem with 4 watts mobile...
I really like the Argosy... I turne off the digital display and
switch to the 5 watt max setting and can talk all weekend on my
small gel cell..then if I want to go mobile can either use 5 watts
or 50 watts...
