Metal roof as a ground plane?

I am putting a new roof on my house, and it will be metal this time. I
assume it will make a good ground plane for a vertical, but should I
bond the roof to the gutters and the downspouts to the actual earth? I
have not yet used a vertical antenna. Is there any configuration that
will work best with this type of roof ground plane? The only other
conductors on the roof are the 8 solar panels that are my power source.

Cheers, -- Bill
