CONCLUSION: The 300 ohm ladder line is mot a low loss line in the
HF region. It is on par with RG17 but not as good as
any of the hardlines.
I have for some time been doubtful about the published values
for line loss for ladder line. This weekend I inaugurate my
new RF-1 and did some measurements on a 300 ohm ladder line.
Line type : The Wireman CQ 562 ladder line, 300 ohm
Conductors: #18 AWG 19 strand
Spacing : 0.335"
Measured values for 100 feet:
Zo : 270 ohm
loss at 6 MHz: 0.30 dB
loss at 28 MHz: 0.50 dB
ARRL handbook data loss at 28 Mhz: 0.18 dB
Open wire air spaced from transmission
line equations, same size and spacing
of conductors loss at 28 MHz: 0.34 dB
Zo : 337 ohm
