Re: QRP Calling Freqs

Packet blasting over the 14.1 mc beacons? I believe that beacon system
has been in operation for 10-15 years now. It is firmly established and
14.1 should be treated as a sacred freq. NCDXF has unselfishly spent tens
of thousands of dollars on that system for the benefit of the entire amateur
community. On the other hand, how long has packet been around and what
service are the 14.1 packet QRM'ers providing?

The only problem with the 14.1 mc beacon system is the 10 minute
cycle; someone might monitor 14.1 for a minute or two, not hear
anything and then fire up. A recent QST stated that the cycle will
be reduced to 1 or 2 minutes; hopefully that will eliminate the
rude digital ops from that freq.

I guess I shouldn't get so upset at the digital folks - after all,
they can't hear if a freq is in use since their receiver volume is
turned down.
