The fact that the tan cores are actually make of phenolic begs
the following question: If one were to wind an inductor on any
non-ferrous core so that the windings covered all of the core would
the field be closed?
Now forget the core - supposed I wind an *air* core inductor in this
fashion (say using stiff wire [#12] spreading the outside of the coil
so it forms a `hollow' torroid shape) - will the field be closed?
