Guys, make plans now to attend Pacificon and the QRP event of the year
(hopefully) on the West Coast. Jeff Jones of this list has secured
permission for us to use a meeting room at the ARRL Pacific Division
Convention (Pacificon) on Oct. 22, which is a Saturday night. The
convention runs Friday, Saturday and Sunday and is held at the Concord
Hilton Hotel in Concord, CA. They have a special rate for the convention
$70 and rooms are still available.
Jeff and I have been talking on the phone, and he offered to help me
find a room and work out the details with the hotel. We were thinking of
renting a room, and having NorCal foot the bill. Then, we came up with the
idea of using one of the meeting rooms that the convention has rented for
the forums during the day. They aren't used at night, and we came up with a
way to put them to good use, a "QRP Hospitality Room" sponsored by NorCal
QRP Club.
This is what we have planned. NorCal QRP club will provide the
liquid refreshments (beer and soda) and you need to bring your QRP gear for
a huge show and tell session at the hotel starting at 7:00PM and running
until Midnight. It will be a "QRP Hospitality Suite" a la Dayton, and the
best part is that Jeff has found us a room for "free" the best kind of rent
to pay!! Wayne Burdick, N6KR, Jim Cates, WA6GER, and I will be there
reprsenting NorCal, Bruce Gellately VE7ZM, who helped develope the Epiphyte
SSB rig will be there, and others. This is your chance to meet a bunch of
Inet QRPers. Plus, have the opportunity to talk to Wayne Burdick about your
NorCal 40 and Sierra. Maybe even Chuck "No Show" Adams will show!! It will
be fun. Plan on attending and don't forget to bring your gear for us to see.
Don't worry, we will keep with the NorCal Meeting Format and not
have a formal meeting. NO BUSINESS MEETING, just FUN, FUN, FUN!!!
72, Doug, KI6DS
