Internet, my favorite subject. Finally something I think I can
contribute on for this group.

There are many books at the bookstore that discribe all the
ins and outs of internet and email. One book I found useful
is UNIX COMMUNICATIONS by the WAITE GROUP. This one covers
mainly email, email addresses, and uucp. I sure others can
recommend very good books on other aspects of internet, ftp,
telnet, gophers, etc.

But wait! Once I have all this wonderful information where
do I go to get an account, you may ask. This is the part that
amazed me. Unless you have an email account from at a college,
or your employer has provided you with an account, how do you
go about getting one? For myself, I never new that anything
like internet even existed until one day I overheard a fellow
contract programmer mention he had an account with a particular
service provider (I won't advertise names here, no need to anyway).
Even though his account was more like prodigy, all menu driven, it
did have email access. Later, by chance again, I found a company
that provides dialin accounts with access as a regular user, choice
of bourne shell, C shell, or Korn shell, and full access to internet
including email, news readers, ftp, telnet, uucp, etc. I was
surprised that I had not seen any ads for these companies and that
only by accident I had found out about them.

Anyways, here's the point. There is a site on the net that
maintains a list of all known service providers. The list is
called NIXPUB. You can get it by doing one of the following:

To subscribe for regular updates send mail to
        nixpub-list-request@ls.com

To just get a current list send mail to
        archive-server@cs.widener.edu
in subject or body of message put
            send nixpub long
        or
            send nixpub short
        or
            send nixpub long short
        or even
            index nixpub

There are more ways to get the list. They are explained on the list
itself. But since I know everyone here at least has access to email
then I know the above will work fine.

The NIXPUB list contains a list of internet service providers, the
type of access they provide, and how much they charge if any. There
are quite a few that provide email access at NO CHARGE.

Get your copy of NIXPUB today, and get all your friends connected
for free.
